Johnson has over 11 years of experience in tax advisory assignments in a number of countries in Africa. These assignments span across the major tax areas: transfer pricing, tax restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, business setups and structuring, offshore entity setups, tax reviews and Value Added Tax (VAT) refund audits. He has experience working with major players in major industries in the countries that he has worked in. These include oil and gas, tourism, manufacturing, banking, telecommunication, shipping and logistics, agriculture among others.
Johnson has in the past worked with big four global firms in the East and West African regions.
Johnson has undertaken tax structuring projects for companies looking to structure their global operations for tax efficiency. He has assisted entities review and select the most suitable locations to hold their investments and set up their headquarters including intellectual properties, share service centers and financing hubs. He has also assisted groups review the tax risks and opportunities relating to inter-company transactions.
Johnson has been involved in transfer pricing policy documentation for multinational enterprises and national enterprises in countries like Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda and Nigeria.
Johnson is the lead consultant for major real estate projects. He has worked on most of these projects from idea conception, feasibility studies, contracting, execution/development and selling stages. These include Special Economic Zones projects and Mixed-Use Developments.
Johnson has conducted/facilitated a number of trainings in areas of local taxes, international taxation and transfer pricing to various industries and in various countries including Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria.
Johnson has extremely good relationships in the tax industry including key regulatory agencies. He has vast experience dealing with tax authorities and very good at arguing clients’ positions and presentations. He has represented clients in meetings with various regulatory agencies in a number of countries.
